Keto diets have become an incredibly popular way to lose weight and really, that’s no surprise. Research has shown that a keto diet can significantly help people lose weight, often more effectively than other types of diets (1,2,3,4). At the same time, a keto diet has been associated with other health benefits, particularly because of its potential to lower insulin levels (5), blood sugar levels (6) and improve lipid profiles (7,8,9).
Now, keto diets do get a bit of a bad rap, mostly because they can be a little tough early on, as your body adjusts to a new energy source. Additionally, cutting most of the carbs out of your diet can be a bit of a challenge but this also gets easier over time.
In fact, once you get used to it, a keto diet can become second nature. And, options like good keto dessert recipes can make the entire process that much more enjoyable.
After all, following a healthy diet shouldn’t mean that you have to cut out food that you love and dessert is one of those foods that is too good to pass up. Even if you’re on a keto diet specifically to lose weight, these keto dessert recipes are still an appealing addition, as long as you don’t have too much.
The recipes themselves were sourced from various talented bloggers across the internet. Many of them strongly focus on the keto diet on their own websites. So, if you’re looking for more recipes or direction about following a keto diet, you can check some of those sites out.
Coconut Raspberry Cupcakes
Image from Keto Size Me
I love the way that these Coconut Raspberry Cupcakes look. For one thing, if you were to just glance at them, you probably wouldn’t realize were even keto at all. Instead, they look just like ordinary cupcakes and appealing ones at that. In her post, the author mentions that the best part of these cupcakes is the icing, and I would tend to agree. Not only does the icing help with the visual impact of the cupcakes, the ingredients in it would mean that it tastes amazing too.
Chocolate Fat Bomb
Image from Ketogasm
These Chocolate Fat Bombs use flavors of macadamia and sea salt, in addition to chocolate, so you know they’re going to be good. If you’re new to a keto diet, then this type of keto dessert recipe may seem a little strange. But, fat bombs are popular among keto dieters, as they are low in carbs and can taste amazing.
Additionally, you really don’t need to be afraid of fat, especially if you are on a keto diet. Instead, fat is nowhere near as bad as we tend to assume and is an important source of macro nutrients. At the same time, desserts like fat bombs are certainly better for you than sugar-loaded treats that are often processed and high in artificial ingredients.
Decadent Chocolate Cake
Image from Paleomazing
This Decadent Chocolate Cake is a little bit different than the other keto dessert recipes on this list. Specifically, the cake recipe was actually designed to follow the Paleo diet, rather than a keto diet.
Now, the Paleo diet doesn’t have the same carb restrictions that you find on a keto diet, so many Paleo foods won’t be keto friendly. However, the Paleo diet does restrict many foods and ingredients. As such, many Paleo recipes are relatively low in carbs and most Paleo dieters inadvertently follow a low carb diet, even though their intake may never be low enough to reach ketosis.
This particular recipe offers a slight variation so that you can use for it a Paleo diet and for a keto diet. This alone makes it worth trying, especially for people who are following both diets. At the same time, it’s hard to go wrong with chocolate cake. After all, this is one of the classic dessert options out there.
Mocha Truffles
Image from My Copenhagen Kitchen
I’m sure that I’m not the only one who loves truffles, particularly the idea of Mocha Truffles. After all, the flavors of chocolate and coffee do seem to naturally complement one another in food and in drinks.
To be fair though, these aren’t your typical truffles. Instead, they are another variation of the fat bomb concept and rely heavily on butter as an ingredient. The end result is decadent little treats that are particularly effective at killing a sugar craving. But, just like any dessert, try not to have too many of them.
Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Icing
Image from Warfield Family
If you’re looking for something a little less intense than the fat bombs, these Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Icing are a good alternative. We’re getting into the perfect season for cinnamon rolls right now and there is no reason that you should miss out simply because you are following a keto diet. Instead, the rolls and the icing are the perfect way to get your cinnamon roll fix without breaking your keto diet.
Keto Lava Cake
Image from Tasteaholics
I mentioned a chocolate cake earlier in the list but this Keto Lava Cake is completely different. In general, lava cakes can make for amazing desserts, especially if you’re one of those people who love gooey chocolate (who doesn’t?).
The recipe is also one example of how keto desserts can sometimes look pretty similar to conventional options. In fact, the creator of this recipe started with non-keto desserts and then altered them to produce options that work within a keto diet – without compromising taste in the process.
Blueberry Keto Cake
Image from Girl Eats World
Speaking of cakes, this Blueberry Keto Cake is another option, especially for people who prefer fruit flavors over chocolate. I know blueberries might not sound particularly keto, but as the recipe creator explains, they are actually fairly low in sugar, so the cake is actually keto. Personally, I love the combination of flavors with this cake and the end result looks pretty cool as well.
Dark Chocolate Raspberry Gelato
Image from All Day I Dream About Food
In writing this list, I found many keto dessert recipes that look keto simply by glancing at them, along with some that simply don’t seem like they could be keto. This Dark Chocolate Raspberry Gelato falls into the latter category. But, don’t worry, the recipe is still entirely keto.
The author does note that this is a pretty dense and rich dessert. For many people, that’s going to be an appealing aspect, especially if you are a major fan of chocolate. However, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Chia Seed Pudding
Image from Modern Low Carb
This Chia Seed Pudding is a particularly appealing dessert option because it is also a great way to get more fiber. Doing so is particularly important if you are following a keto diet, as many people struggle to consume enough fiber with this type of diet.
At the same time, chia seed puddings are also great because you can have them at any time of the day. So, you’ll often find people having this type of dish as a snack during the day or even for dessert.
But, it does take a while to soak the chia seeds and most people soak them overnight. That’s not a major issue but you would need to take it into account when planning for this pudding.
Peanut Butter Cup Squares
Image from Low Carb Yum
Many of us love the flavor of peanut butter cups but not the processed ingredients that go along with them. So, these Peanut Butter Cup Squares are a good alternative option for dessert or even for a snack. The combination of flavors and fat also means that these squares would be perfect for fighting any sugar cravings that threaten to derail your diet.
Berries and Cream Keto Cake
Image from Wicked Stuffed
If you’re looking for a good cake recipe, it’s hard to go wrong with this Berries and Cream Keto Cake. For one thing, it looks fantastic, especially as you get cake, cream and fruit, all in a single dish. The other cool thing is that this a mug cake recipe. So, you just make a single serving at a time and there is relatively little prep work involved.
Mug cakes like this are particularly good for anyone who doesn’t have much portion control or anyone who wants to avoid sweets sitting around the house. There are lots of great mug cake recipes out there but this one is a perfect choice for a keto diet.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Fat Bombs
Image from Butter is Not a Carb
If you are a fan of peanut butter cups, then these Chocolate Peanut Butter Fat Bombs are a great way to get the same flavor. The concept here is similar to the other fat bombs on this list. However, the flavor choice means that these end up seeming more like candy than a dessert. That’s not a bad thing though, especially as these treats are so easy to prepare.
Plus, with recipes like this, you have the advantage of knowing precisely what ingredients go into your food. That’s much better than relying on heavily processed treats.
Cheesecake Tarts with Blackberry Compote
Image from The Health Foodie
There are lots of options for keto dessert recipes out there, including the ones in this list and many others. But, some do end up looking much nicer than others. This recipe for Cheesecake Tarts with Blackberry Compote is one example of a keto dessert that simply looks amazing.
Now, the recipe is a little more complex than many of the other desserts on the list, especially as you have to make the dough, the compote and the cheesecake itself separately. But honestly, the recipes that require more work are often the ones that turn out the best. That does seem to be the case with this cheesecake and the choice of flavors and ingredients in each part of the recipe complement one another well.
Spiced Keto Berry Crumble
Image from Ketoship
Of all the desserts that we’ve talked about so far, this Spiced Keto Berry Crumble is probably my favorite. I love the fact that this recipe is a little bit different than the other ones on the list, along with the way that it ends up looking.
The recipe itself is designed to create four servings, either in a big dish or in little ramekins. Personally, I would go with the individual ramekins but everyone will have their own preference. Regardless, the dessert looks wonderful no matter how you cook and serve it.
Easy Keto Nut Fudge
Image from Queen Keto
Fudge is a fairly popular option for a sweet snack or a dessert but it is also one that divides people. While many love it, others are simply not interested in the taste or texture. But, even if you’re not a big fudge fan, this Easy Keto Nut Fudge is worth trying out.
As the name suggests, the recipe is extremely simple to make and it’s also hard to get wrong. Plus, the end result is a great keto snack and one that would be a good source of energy.
Molten Chocolate Cake
Image from Maken with Cherry
This Molten Chocolate Cake is another chocolate cake option and is surprisingly easy to make. In fact, I’d recommend this particular cake recipe to just about anybody, regardless of whether or not they were on the keto diet. The end result looks great and the molten aspect is a nice touch.
Although, as the author notes, you can also cook it a little longer, which will give you a small chocolate cake. Doing that could be a good option if you’re not so keen on the model aspect.
Tiramisu Popsicles
Image from KetoDiet Blog
Most of the keto dessert recipes in this list have been fairly typical, often getting their inspiration from non-keto desserts. But, there are also some more unusual ones, including these Tiramisu Popsicles. Admittedly, these treats are more suitable for summer but I can think of many people that would love to eat these, even in the cooler months.
The author also does a great job with the instructions for this recipe, as there are images of every step in the process. That aspect is great if you need additional direction about how to make them.
Chocolate Coconut Fat Bombs
Image from Homemade Food Junkie
As I mentioned earlier, fat bombs truly are a common dessert options for people on the keto diet. That’s one reason why there have been a number of them on this list and more still to come. Still, the term fat bomb covers a whole range of desserts and the various types may appeal to different people.
In this case, the recipe I’m highlighting is for Coconut Chocolate Fat Bombs. They are made in little cupcake papers, which helps to give them the appealing shape that you see in the image. The choice of chocolate and coconut also seems to work well, especially because many of us do love those flavors together.
Blueberry Cheesecake Squares
Image from Ditch the Carbs
Cheesecake is another popular dessert option, so why not make something like these Blueberry Cheesecake Squares so that you can still have cheesecake even if you’re on a keto diet.
In fact, this particular recipe is good for a number of different diet types. For example, it contains no added sugar and also has no nuts. The lack of nuts is important, as some people are allergic, which can limit the food that they can eat.
Beyond all of that, these cheesecake squares are worth making simply because they look good and would probably taste great too.
Peanut Butter Fudge Bars
I always love the recipes from Ruled.me and these Peanut Butter Fudge Bars are no exception. To me, they look like food you might find at a café, rather than something you would make at home. But, the recipe itself is actually surprisingly easy to make and doesn’t even use a large number of ingredients.
This is also another recipe that comes with great instructions, so it truly is worth trying out for yourself.
Pecan Fudge Fat Bombs
Image from The Primitive Plate
These Pecan Fudge Fat Bombs are another option if you like the idea of fat bombs. Even though these snacks may sound a bit controversial, they are pretty popular and can be a great source of energy and macronutrients, especially between meals. At the same time, they make for a sweet dessert and a great way to round off the day.
This particular recipe is easy to make, which adds to the appeal. The specific shapes in the image are the result of the silicone mold that the author used. So, you could create different shapes simply by using another mold – and there is no shortage of options out there.
Keto Protein Brownies
Image from Meat Free Keto
These Keto Protein Brownies are another dessert with a lot of appeal nutritionally. In particular, the protein component means that they would help to keep you full longer, so these double as protein bars. Additionally, the brownies are vegan, which makes them a good choice for anybody that is following a vegan diet.
Maple Almond Fudge Fat Bombs
Image from Buns in my Oven
Most fat bombs that I’ve found seem to rely on chocolate to some degree or another as a flavor. But, that’s not the case here. Instead, these Maple Almond Fudge Fat Bombs offer a very different flavor profile. This is also one of the simplest recipes on this list, with just four ingredients and five simple steps.
As such, it’s a good recipe to try if you want a great dessert but don’t want a lot of hassle.
Where to Go Next
All of these options are amazing examples of keto dessert recipes and there are many more out there. They are also great examples of just how much you can do in the kitchen, even on a keto diet where your carb intake is dramatically restricted.
