In general, the term flavonoids is a class of plant-based molecules that we get from a range of foods. Researchers are continuing to find that specific molecules play key roles in our health. This promotes the importance of getting whole foods into our diets, particularly foods like berries and avocado which contain powerful nutrients that can help with our health.

We might not be able to stop the process of aging, but you’re right that any way to decrease some of the impacts from aging is certainly worth trying.

I would imagine that the same advantages apply to both men and women, realistically, the biology between genders isn’t that different. Besides, approaches like this are something that we should be trying now, even before all the evidence is in. After all, getting more whole and healthy foods into our diet certainly isn’t going to harm our health.

In general, the process of canning doesn’t tend to affect the nutrients all that much, the same is true for freezing fruits and vegetables. However, cooking will tend to decrease the amount of healthy compounds in just about any situation.

As for benefits, there are a wide range and researchers often look at specific foods, like blueberries or avocado to see what benefits they have. For example, often you find that these types of compounds are great as antioxidants or for fighting inflammation, which does make them very important in our diets.

Are these flavoids present in canned fruits or veggies? How can diferent kind of flavoids work withing our system?

Great breakdown of the strengths and weaknesses of this study.

It certainly seems likely that BOTH men and women would benefit from eating plenty of fruits and vegetables. Well, at least we can HOPE that would be the case! And start eating accordingly.

I thought the definition of healthy aging was excellent, clear and concise. I know I’d like enjoy old age free of chronic disease while maintaining cognitive, physical, and mental health! That sounds like a recipe for a great old age!

Thanks for the education!

Roger

Aging hits everybody and finding ways to slow it down or make it more manageable always helps. I think I will look into the best ways to improve my intake of flavonoids from now. Thanks for the info!

Never heard of the term “flavonoids” though, but this research is definitely reliable, getting 13,000 participants and following up with them for 15 years is not an easy task. Thanks for the information, now I need to be discipline enough to make sure I am taking enough flavonoids every day.
